Taverne zum Schäfli

Christian Kuchler

Christian Kuchler's rise in haute cuisine was spectacular. This did not go unnoticed by the Gault Millau restaurant guide's reviewers. At 24, he was named "Discovery of the Year 2010 of Eastern Switzerland" and rated 14 points (Schupfen, Diessenhofen). This was followed by a Michelin Star in 2012 (Gasthof Hirschen, Eglisau) and in 2014 he was named "Newcomer of the Year in German-speaking Switzerland" (17 points). Since the beginning of January 2015, he has been the owner and head chef of the Taverne zum Schäfli in Wigoltingen TG. Since October 2017, the Taverne zum Schäfli has been awarded 2 Michelin Stars and 18 Gault-Millau points.

Although the appearance of the over 300-year-old half-timbered house is charming, one would hardly guess the high culinary standards that await inside. Host and head chef Christian Kuchler masters classic cooking techniques, but with occasional creative or Asian nuances. For all dishes, the quality of the products is paramount: they are served without unnecessary frills, but with precise craftsmanship and full flavors. Both the menu and the à la carte options are equally tempting. Additionally, there are wonderful German Rieslings, excellent regional wines, and red wines from France and Italy with impressive vintage qualities. The ambiance in the stylish and cozy dining rooms or on the delightful terrace is inviting. First-class service completes the excellent overall picture.
